People are creatures
Born of spirit
Born of earth
Like all the other creatures
Who inhabit our little blue planet
We all have an inclination
To look for danger first
This is why our news
Show our problems, show our grief
It’s common to believe
You should error
On the side of safety
But this is just a way to say
“Listen to your fears
Listen to grief”
To ignore your anxieties
Balance yourself with care
And error on the side of optimism
If you gotta make a mistake
Do it on the side of compassion
Rise to the hopes of your spirit
With the piece of you
That looks for the best in life
And in people
In all that you do
In all who you meet
Give living half a chance
And the benefit of a doubt
You’ll be surprised
How many times
Life rises to the occasion
The world looks wild and wide.
It can appear very cruel.
We live in strange, strange land.
Wander and wonder.
Open inward eyes.
Shimmer far across the midnight sky.
You can see kindness
sparkling across the land.
While China holds on to Tibet
and Iraq festers daily
like a sore on all mankind,
cotton ball clouds still scatter the sky.
Your cat still purrs in your lap.
The cashier down at the 7-11
still smiles when you walk in.
Everest still wears a pure white crest….
follow every hurricane.
Like blue waves rise and fall on the ocean
as soon as the bad drags you down
the good will lift you up again.
The world is gonna be what its gonna be.
You cannot change everything.
But you can make your share of life
into what you want it to be.
The measure is success isn’t money and items.
It’s happiness and compassion.
And happiness is not the absence of problems.
It’s being able to handle
what life sends your way.
Never so much a matter
of at what you’re looking
but more the matter
of where you stand,
life is egocentric
and gives you back what you put in.
There is more to the picture
than meets the eye.
People only see what they expect to see.
Treat your fellow man
with too much greed and indifference
then greed and indifference
is most often what you’ll get back.
Show everyone you meet some kindness
And kindness is most often what you’ll get in return.
Each of us is king of his own actions.
Every man is his own domain .
Add all of us together
and you end up with the shape of humanity.
Make sure you run your own domain
openhearted and with care.
Add them all together
and you’ll end up with a better mankind.
Hold on to the hand of your daughter.
Look at joy on the face of your son.
When you loose your faith in humanity,
cradle a newborn babe in your hands.
In the darkness of night
on soft pillows and cool sheets
curl up with your lover.
Touch them kindly, kiss them gently.
Close your eyes and rest.
Love sleeps in five billion bedrooms tonight
where paradise lives unnoticed
shining as bright as the noonday sun.
